Dr Ben Palmer

Ben has a background in psychology having a finished a PhD at Swinburne University in Melbourne Australia where he developed the first Australian model and measure of emotional intelligence. He has an extensive publication list in the area, has been invited to contribute chapters to books and guest edit special issues of journals on the topic.

His research has also attracted considerable attention locally witnessed by awards such as the Richard Pratt Scholarship, an Australian Postgraduate Award, and a PhD Thesis-Excellence award.

Together with Swinburne University’s commercialization arm Ben founded Genos International in 2002 to bring his model and measure of emotional intelligence to the market. The first major customer of Genos was ANZ Bank where Ben and the Genos team worked together with McKinsey & Company on transforming the culture of the organisation to be more customer centric. The Genos model and measure of emotional intelligence was used as one of the mediums for this transformation that resulted in the Bank doubling its share price in 18 months and winning Bank of the Year 8 times in a row.

Genos, and the model and measure of emotional intelligence that forms its core business, is now a national and Australian export success story. Genos has operations in Australia and Europe and distribution partners servicing clients in the USA, India, China, South Africa, South East Asia and New Zealand. In his experience at Genos Ben has raised venture capital, negotiated joint ventures and demonstrated success in driving revenue and profit growth via entry into international markets and business model improvement. Companies from Walmart in the United States, to Accor Hotels based in Paris, to Qantas in Australia, have used the Genos model and measure of emotional intelligence to improve leadership, resilience, customer service, sales and teamwork.

Deiric has global responsibility for development of the business and managing their growing community of more than 1200 practitioners around the world.

Deiric has written 4 books: Winning Business Proposals, The Customer Continuum, The Business Bathroom Bible, and Leadership Charisma. He also co-authored 40 Strategies for Winning Business. Over the last 20 years he has also had more than 1,000 articles published worldwide.

Deiric’s real passion is speaking – there’s nothing he loves more than speaking to large groups on subjects he feel passionate about and he addresses conferences and seminars all over the world twice or three times a month.  One of the topics about which he is most passionate is the application of Emotional Intelligence to the development of engaging leaders who naturally inspire their teams to superior results.

People have intrigued, fascinated, entertained and inspired me my entire life. Our human connections and collaborations enable us to achieve every day and how we manage ourselves and work with others impacts those achievements.
Some things that shaped me:

  • Co-hosted a weekly children’s TV show from ages 12-15
  • Competitive gymnast until age 20
  • Broadcast Journalism major and Sociology minor
  • Career in sales from 1989 – 1998
  • Started a JobFit employee assessment business in 1998
  • Married Jeff and moved to Tampa, FL USA in 2001
  • Started Red Diamond Solutions in 2016 as an extension of our passion for Emotional Intelligence

My fascination with Emotional Intelligence started long before I even knew that it had a formal name. Working in television, competing in gymnastics, owning a business and being married all taught me to address, manage and try to understand my emotions and those of the people around me – this was my informal EI Education.

Thirty years of working, and a formal EI Education have led me to this role as an Authorized Distributor for Genos International and a Certified Emotional Intelligence Practitioner, in which I have the amazing opportunity to work with coaches, consultants and trainers, Organizational Development Specialists, Human Resources Professionals, Corporate Trainers and business owners – enabling them to fill this need of advancing Emotional Intelligence inside of their client companies and organizations.

Some things I love to do: yoga, snow and water skiing, sports of all kind, college football, murder mysteries (especially series books), wine, comedies, Super Hero movies, racking up steps on my FitBit, spoiling our Basset Hound, Humphrey, and Jeff.

In 1985 I read the book “How to win Friends and Influence People”. I identified so strongly with the book’s message – be authentic and genuine, admit to mistakes quickly, make others feel important to name a few – that since that reading, I have labored to adhere to those principles both professionally and personally.
Some things that shaped me:

So, I have come full circle – my strengths and talents are aligned with my belief and passion for the products and services I am able to offer to others.
